Donald Denard Jackson Jr. AKA D.O.N was born January 19th; to his parents of Renae Cook and Donald Jackson Sr. in Gainesville, FL. D.O.N has two half siblings from his mother and is the only child on his father’s side. Both his parents are still alive and residing in Gainesville.
D.O.N was raised by his Grandparents, Clarence and Lilly Cook, on 5th Avenue in the Seminary Lane housing projects. Growing up D.O.N’s grandparents were known in the neighborhood has the local ‘bootleggers’. Showing D.O.N from a very early age how to hustle and earn a dollar. Selling loose cigarettes and sodas on his front porch before jumping off and heading to the streets themselves. Followed by numerous fights, stints in jail, and even shootouts, D.O.N continues to find his way to the ‘top of the pile’ and never stops hustling. Overcoming many obstacles and hardships in life to achieve his goals and dreams.
D.O.N. is not only a father of three (3) daughters but a husband as well. He and his wife, Laverne Jackson, were married on April 16th, 2011. D.O.N.’s daughter Trinity Jackson also has a joy and passion for music like her father. They are often in the studio together and you can find her name in many of D.O.N.’s writer’s and producer’s credits.
His stage name, D.O.N. is not only a play on his own name but is an acrostic for ‘Doin Only Numbas’ which is a movement/mind. Symbolizing getting money, whatever you’re doing, your “doin only numbas” to get money.
Influenced by legendary artists like Scarface, Tupac, Biggie, N.W.A., Eightball/MJG, T.I., Master P, Cash Money, Pastor Troy, Nipsey Hussle, & James Prince. Being shuffled in and out of meetings when he arrived and literally leaving the city’s music industry coveting and speechless at his natural abilities from live shows, writing, and the indie release of “Nobody Gotta Know,” JC was always content with being an “independent” singer/songwriter until “the right deal” presented itself. What separates the singer/songwriter from the droves of R&B hopefuls is he didn't have to choose this path. Though he has been belting gospel classics professionally since he was 9, JC graduated Magna Cum Laude from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, followed by a Master’s in Education with a highly impressive 4.0 GPA and was teaching high school as Mr. Crowder by day and exploiting his creative talents as JC by night. JC utters, “A plan B is great but music is my heart.”
